Here are a few words from people in the Westmorland Homecare team:

Kelly Haygarth Westmorland Homecare“I have worked in Health and Social Care for the last 22 years and held many roles in different area’s such as residential and nursing care, day care services, hospice care and community family support working with children with a serious illness.

I completed my NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care, and also completed my D32/33 Assessors award. I am currently completing Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.

Working as a Staff Development Co-ordinator has been a completely new experience for me, but one that I love!

I enjoy seeing staff who are new to care flourish, become competent and confident HCA’s delivering high quality care, promoting the values of the company, as well as our experienced HCA’s who take on the role of mentoring.

Westmorland Homecare is different to any company I have worked for. What attracted me to the company was their mission to deliver high quality care and enabling clients to live life and enjoy hobbies and interests. But also, it was how they look after their staff.

They are well supported, and well trained, and this is reflected in how they deliver the care in the community. Everyone’s passion and drive to achieve this standard is phenomenal and I feel part of something special, as we work towards changing the way homecare is delivered across the sector.”

“I joined Westmorland Homecare in July 2023, coming from a clinical background in neonatal nursing, with additional experience in kidney care and prison nursing. Although I was new to home care, I felt I had strong transferable skills and began my journey as a Staff Training and Development Coordinator. This role allowed me to develop a good understanding of our processes and policies, build strong relationships with the community team, and complete my Moving and Handling Train the Trainer qualification, enabling me to deliver safe moving and handling training.
In January 2025, I moved into a Client Coordinator role to become more involved in care planning. During this time, I worked closely with both existing and new clients, gaining valuable insight into what people expect from homecare and what outstanding, person centred care truly looks like. I found it incredibly rewarding to support clients in creating care packages that genuinely enhanced their quality of life.
I progressed to Senior Client Coordinator in June 2025, supporting office coordinators, monitoring compliance and service effectiveness, and assisting the Care Manager. In September 2025, I was appointed Care Manager for Westmorland Homecare – Lancaster and Morecambe, a role I continue in today alongside completing my Level 5 NVQ in Leadership and Management.
It has been a whirlwind two and a half years, but one I’ve loved every minute of! I’ve felt supported at every step, with my development consistently encouraged, and I’m proud to be part of an organisation that invests so strongly in its people and the care it provides.”
