Career progression with Westmorland Homecare

At Westmorland Homecare we are always on the lookout for enthusiastic, passionate individuals who want to progress in their careers and make a difference by helping care for others within the local community.

Many of our home-care assistants come from backgrounds other than the care profession (for example retail, hospitality, admin) and we are very keen to attract people to the care profession from all backgrounds.

We provide in-house training, practical guidance and will support your learning and development up to NVQ Level 2. We’re passionate about people and we really do invest in our team!

Here are a few words from people in the Westmorland Homecare team:

Kelly Haygarth Westmorland Homecare“I have worked in Health and Social Care for the last 22 years and held many roles in different area’s such as residential and nursing care, day care services, hospice care and community family support working with children with a serious illness.

I completed my NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care, and also completed my D32/33 Assessors award. I am currently completing Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.

Working as a Staff Development Co-ordinator has been a completely new experience for me, but one that I love!

I enjoy seeing staff who are new to care flourish, become competent and confident HCA’s delivering high quality care, promoting the values of the company, as well as our experienced HCA’s who take on the role of mentoring.

Westmorland Homecare is different to any company I have worked for. What attracted me to the company was their mission to deliver high quality care and enabling clients to live life and enjoy hobbies and interests. But also, it was how they look after their staff.

They are well supported, and well trained, and this is reflected in how they deliver the care in the community. Everyone’s passion and drive to achieve this standard is phenomenal and I feel part of something special, as we work towards changing the way homecare is delivered across the sector.”

Sarah Croasdale Westmorland Homecare“My background has always been health and social care as I have a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, from working with individuals with learning difficulties, dementia, brain injuries patients and older adults with visual impairments.

I have worked in care homes but wanted to work out in the community, but never made the change due to negative feedback about other homecare companies.

I then saw Westmorland Homecare advertised and loved the sound of how much support we would receive; we definitely do get it!

I joined Westmorland Homecare as a homecare assistant, but then changed roles to a Care Co-ordinator where I support staff and clients. I have now moved across to work as a scheduler to face new challenges which I really enjoy. I really enjoy working with Westmorland Homecare, I love going to work every day and I always look forward to working with the team.”

“I have worked in social care all my life in various areas from residential care, physical disabilities, specialist education and community care. I love my job because I get to meet such wonderful and special people every day.

I want to ensure all my client’s needs are met by delivering the very best service. My job is to set up care for new clients and then review and ensure all their wishes are met.

I will also do quality checks with you in person or over the phone to make sure you are happy with the service.”

Are you considering a career in the care sector? What would you like to know?

We appreciate that working in the care sector isn’t a role for everyone but, for those who do, it can be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling.

Across the UK we are all living to an older age and, as the population grows, so will the need for qualified professional carers who can support our senior citizens.

Our care workers enjoy a high level of self-management, with support from their colleagues whenever it’s needed, and enjoy the fact that no two days are ever the same.

At Westmorland Homecare, we invest in our people with training from the very first day of employment and a commitment to ongoing personal development. We also pay one of the highest rates to our staff and offer contracts of assured hours each week.
