Westmorland Homecare’s coffee morning raises more than £1,000 for Ukrainians who have fled their country

Staff at Westmorland Homecare at Kendal have organised a coffee morning to raise funds to help Ukrainians who have fled their country following the Russian invasion.
The event will be held between 9.30am and 11am on Thursday, March 31, in the downstairs area at Ye Olde Fleece Inn at Highgate in the town.
“The team from Westmorland Homecare are baking cakes in advance and will be serving tea and coffee on the day,” said Chris Moss, one of the directors of Westmorland Homecare.
“The coffee morning has been organised by Freya Stenner, one of our recruitment co-ordinators. She has been so affected by what she has read and seen about what has happened in Ukraine that she wanted to do something to show support to those who have fled the country.
“The fundraising coffee morning ties in with the underlying ethos and core beliefs of Westmorland Homecare – it is all about being family-oriented, giving back to the community and looking after each other.
“Caring is more than just providing the basics and our staff regularly go above and beyond. We have staff who are passionate about baking. They bake with clients and take clients out for afternoon tea. It is that kind of fellowship which is really important.”
The coffee morning is open for anyone to attend. Money raised will go to the British Red Cross.
Westmorland Homecare provides hundreds of hours of care each week to enable elderly and often frail people to live independently in their own home.
Its services include home care, such as help with housekeeping and meal preparation, and personal care, such as help with dressing, bathing and getting in and out of bed.
