A coffee morning hosted by staff at Westmorland Homecare at Kendal raised more than £1,000 to help Ukrainians who have fled their country following the Russian invasion.
The event was held on Thursday, March 31, in the downstairs area at Ye Olde Fleece Inn at Highgate in the town.
The team from Westmorland Homecare baked cakes in advance and served tea and coffee on the day. Passers-by also donated money.
The coffee morning was organised by Freya Stenner, one of Westmorland Homecare’s recruitment co-ordinators.
“It was an absolutely roaring success,” said Dr Moss, one of the directors of Westmorland Homecare. “There was a real community atmosphere and it was fantastic to see Kendal rally together and support what is a really challenging situation.”
The money raised will be sent to the British Red Cross.
Westmorland Homecare provides hundreds of hours of care each week to enable elderly and often frail people to live independently in their own home.
Its services include home care, such as help with housekeeping and meal preparation, and personal care, such as help with dressing, bathing and getting in and out of bed.
