A homecare provider is to host some Halloween fun later this month to support the work of a Kendal charity.
Westmorland Homecare’s South Lakeland branch will host ‘No Trick, Just Treat’ during the Cumbria half-term holiday.
It is encouraging people to come along to the free event at 18 Highgate in Kendal with items which are needed by Manna House, which provides a community of support to meet the physical, social and emotional needs of people who are homeless or vulnerably housed in South Lakeland.
“It is all part of our push to give back to the local and immediate community and ties in with the company’s ethos of supporting vulnerable people,” said Charlotte Oram, the branch’s Care Coordinator – Recruitment.
People are asked to bring along and donate items such as toiletries, coffee, sugar and warm, waterproof items of clothing, which are always needed by Manna House. In exchange children will be given an introduction to the Halloween festivities, and will be able to take away Halloween colouring packs and treats and offered a transferable Halloween tattoo during their visit.
“We are calling it ‘No Trick, Just Treat’ because there is no catch, people will be giving something to support their community and we will be giving back with light-hearted fun and treats,” said Charlotte.
The event is timed to coincide with Halloween and those attending are encouraged, but not expected, to come along in suitably spooky outfits. Staff will be wearing Halloween head bands and witches’ hats.
“There’s always a need to keep children busy and entertained during school holidays and we hope people will really enjoy this event,” said Charlotte.
It is being organised by Charlotte and by Care Manager Kelsey Walmsley. “I had the idea to help Manna House because I had a good friend, who passed recently, who did a lot of work with the charity and it felt right to do something to honour him,” said Charlotte.
No Trick, Just Treat will be held in the reception area at the branch’s office at 18 Highgate, between 10am and 4pm, from Monday, October 28 to Friday, November 1.
Westmorland Homecare provides care to enable vulnerable and often frail people over the age of 18 to live independently in their own home. Its services include homecare, such as help with housekeeping and meal preparation, and personal care, which includes support with medication, dressing and bathing and helping them living life to the full.
