10/09/2026
More than 50 jobs are expected to be created when a new homecare branch opens in Ulverston soon.
Westmorland Homecare is opening its new branch at 10 Market Street, the historic building formerly occupied by Cohen’s Chemists.
The new Ulverston branch will provide services across communities including Newby Bridge, Greenodd, Ulverston, Dalton-in-Furness and Barrow.
Westmorland Homecare supports people aged 18 and over to live independently in their own homes. Its services include housekeeping, meal preparation and personal care.
Regional director Daniel Stainer said the opening represented an exciting new chapter for the company.
“The opening of our new Ulverston branch marks another exciting milestone for Westmorland Homecare,” he said.
“As demand for high-quality home care continues to grow, we’re proud to be expanding our reach and bringing our person-centred approach to even more people across South Lakeland.
“Our new Ulverston branch will enable more people to live independently in their own homes while creating rewarding career opportunities for local people who share our passion for making a positive difference every day.”
The branch will be led by registered care manager Katie Pennington, who lives in Ulverston and has worked for Westmorland Homecare for more than five years.
Katie said: “Now, two maternity leaves and two babies later, the company has asked me to open another branch in Ulverston following the success of the Lancaster branch.
“Long term, as we grow, we expect to employ more than 50 staff, including homecare assistants and office staff.”
The company also plans to restore the Market Street premises while retaining its historic character and original features.
Katie added: “We are proud to take on such a beautiful, historic building that is very valuable to the town, and we are excited to restore it and keep its character and original features.”
